The benefits of yoga for children
When practicing yoga, children are returning to some of the
very first movements they began in infancy. Yoga is a natural
progression. At 3 months, cobra pose is practiced as they lift
their head, neck and eventually their chest. They begin to find
strength in their arms and move to all fours - cat pose and
eventually just before standing they lift their knees off the
ground into downward dog. Their motor skills, coordination
and strength are continually developing from toddlers to 6
years and after this, as well as these, we are also encouraging
the body to retain strength and suppleness.
A growing amount of mind-body and brain based research shows that when children learn yoga, they become more present, empowered to manage their emotions, and more content and successful in school and in life.
